Geez (Ge'ez) is one of the oldest writing systems still in liturgical use, forming the basis for Amharic, Tigrinya, and other Ethiopian languages. The script is an abugida — each character represents a consonant+vowel syllable. There are 7 vowel orders (forms) for each consonant, giving over 200 unique characters.
